Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held its 63rd Commencement for the Science Class of 2022 on 16 November 2022 at Academic Community Hall. This year, a total of 322 Bachelor’s and 583 Master’s degrees were conferred.
On behalf of the University, Professor Jiming Liu, Associate Vice-President (Research Development) and Dean of Science, congratulated all science graduates on reaching the milestone of the particular academic journey. He heartened them to embrace adversity and create new possibilities, and to uphold the spirit of a BUer. “You need to adapt to the circumstances around you, and you have to turn crisis into opportunity with your creativity, resourcefulness and resilience.”
Two class valedictorians delivered their graduation speeches. Miss Siu Pui Ying, a graduate of Master of Environmental and Public Health Management and a teacher, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to those who supported her during her study journey and determined to incorporate her learning from the programme into her teaching; Mr John Wong, a graduate of Bachelor of Science, encouraged graduates to take on the world and leave their blueprints everywhere. “If you want something you have never had, you have to do something you have never done.” he added.
With the declaration of the closing of the Commencement by Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor and Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost, a new chapter was set to begin for a new batch of 2022 science graduates. Many faculty members, family members and friends of graduates joined to share their happiness on this special occasion, and took cherished pictures at the graduation backdrop to remember this memorable moment.
