The HKBU Judo team had great results at the 23rd Joint College Judo Competition last week. The team, comprising 14 athletes, competed against around 120 contestants from 11 local tertiary institutions and clinched the Team Competition Championship, eight individual awards and the Overall Championship for the third consecutive year in the tournament.
HKBU athletes won three gold, three sliver and two bronze medals in the individual contests. Yuen Hoi-ying (Computer Science, Year 1) was the first runner-up in the Female 48kg Grade. She was also part of the gold medal winning team in the Team Competition.
Ip Chi-ho, President of the Judo Club, said: “It is my honour to be the President of HKBU Judo Club, representing the University at the Joint College Judo Competition. All our teammates strove enthusiastically to achieve our common goal. We are delighted to win the championship in the team competition and retain the Overall Championship for the third consecutive year. It’s a brilliant record for the Club.”
Ms. Abby Chu, President of the Judo Club Alumni Association and the team coach, said: “All the coaches and alumni are proud of the team for their outstanding performance. They demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament. I would like to thank the head coach Mr. Ngai Wai-wo and coach Mr. David Lo for helping the team perfect various techniques as well as offering their encouragement and support. The team will continue to prepare well for competitions and lead the HKBU Judo Club in scaling new heights in the future.”
