Professor Cai Zongwei, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Director of the Dioxin Analysis Laboratory, was granted the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Scholarly Work at the 57th Founders' Day Thanksgiving Service on 5 March 2013.
Professor Cai Zongwei, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Director of the Dioxin Analysis Laboratory, was appointed as one of the editors of the journal Rapid Communication in Mass Spectrometry (RCMS). RCMS was one of the major journals in mass spectrometry, with 24 issues each year and current impact factor of 2.79. Prof Cai was the first editor from Asia in the history of this traditional European journal.
Dr. Ken Leung, Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Chemistry, and Assistant to the Director of the Institute of Creativity at HKBU received the Asian Core Program Lectureship Award at the 3rd New-Phase International Conference of Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia held at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, from 11 to 14 December 2012. Dr. Leung has also been invited to deliver a week-long series of lectures in South Korea next year.
HKBU names Professor Wong Ming-hung, Chair Professor of the Department of Biology, Emeritus Professor in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the University and outstanding achievements in academia.
Professor Wong Ming-hung, Chair Professor of Biology and Honorary Director of the University's Croucher institute for Environmental Sciences, is ranked in the top five in several categories according to the recent list of Microsoft Academic Search - Top Authors in Environmental Sciences.
Professor Raymond Wong Wai-yeung, Chair Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Chemistry, was appointed as the Regional Editor for the international journal "Journal of Organometallic Chemistry" (2011 IF = 2.384) by Elsevier.
Professor Raymond Wong Wai-yeung, Chair Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Chemistry, was presented with the 2012 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation (Award for Youth Innovation), in recognition of his outstanding work on promoting scientific and technological innovation towards advancing energy-related technologies. Among the 15 winners of the Scientific and Technological Innovation Award this year, Professor Wong is one of the two Hong Kong winners of this prestigious prize. He also becomes the first Hong Kong native to receive this award since the establishment of the Foundation in 1994.
Dr. Yuan Xiaoming, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics, was selected as Outstanding Young Researcher and presented at the 57th Founders' Day Thanksgiving Service on 5 March 2013.
Professor Ken Yung (centre) of the Department of Biology has recently been awarded the Overseas, Hong Kong and Macau Young Scholars Collaborative Research Fund by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Professor Yung received a grant of RMB 2 million in support of an extended research project on "Modulations of microRNAs by traditional Chinese medicine in drug addiction and therapeutic effects in the central nervous system and periphery".
