Science Sports Day 2017 successfully attracted 22 teams, nearly 150 alumni, students and faculty members from five science departments reuniting for a day of sporting competition on 29 April 2017.
Entering its 11th year, this annual event scored another record-breaking result with the participation of 65 students and 30 staff players. It also witnessed positive support of alumni with over 50 alumni returned and lined up amongst their old teammates to reignite memories of their sporting experience at the Baptist University.
After rounds of exciting matches, both Departments of Biology and Mathematics won the Dean’s Cup this year with their identical overall highest scores in the 4-competition. It was the first time for the Department of Biology and nine consecutive years for the Department of Mathematics grabbed the Dean’s Cup respectively. All the involved athletics felt extremely excited when receiving the Cup.
The day ended with prize presentation cum networking luncheon. Acting Dean of Science, Professor Chris Wong, complimented alumni, students and staff on their sportsmanship and competitiveness. He hoped this annual Science Sports Day could strengthen solidarity amongst the big science family.
Since 2007, Science Sports Day has been held every year in April, it includes 4-compeition, namely five-a-side football, 5-on-5 basketball, badminton and table-tennis.
