Record-breaking numbers of alumni and friends gathered at HKBU campus and participated in the annual Spring Gathering in celebrating the Year of the Rooster on 18 February 2017.
Nearly 170 guests, staff, alumni who graduated from different years and different programmes came along, as well as some current science students, who will soon also become alumni joined the Gathering this year.
In the opening remarks, Professor Chris Wong, Acting Dean of Science updated the recent development of Faculty and thanked the friends and alumni for their continuous support to the alma mater and encouraged more alumni to participate in the activities organized by various science alumni associations and the Faculty.
“I am delightful to attend the annual Spring Gathering hosted by the Faculty. It is a priceless opportunity, allowing me to meet with so many alumni. I was really touched by their enthusiasm for maintain close ties with their alma mater,” said Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President of the University and also former Dean of Science.
Special programme of this year was by a group of science alumni. They showed their musical talents in a live band performance and their splendid performance was the highlight of the afternoon and elicited big applause.
Participants had an enjoyable afternoon with their old buddies and sharing their recent happenings. The atmosphere of the Gathering reached new heights when alumni took part in several interactive and fun games. In appreciation of alumni’s staunch support to Faculty’s events, the Most Active Participation Award was set up and Baptist Chemists received the Award again this year. Finally, the gathering concluded with a group photo filled with cheery faces, capturing unforgettable memories from the event.
Guests of the gathering included: Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development); Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching & Learning); Professor Ricky Wong, Associate Vice-President of HKBU; Professor Ko Jan Ming, former Head of the Faculty’s Department of Civil Engineering; Dr John Chan, former Dean of Science, Mr Alfred Lee, Chairman of Faculty Advisory Committee; Mr Leung Ka Wing, Chairman of the Steering Committee on Alumni Relations of the Faculty; Dr Tong Chong Sze, Secretary General of Hong Kong Examinations & Assessment Authority; and Professor Chan Wing Hong, Emeritus Professor in Chemistry of HKBU.
