Welcome to the Faculty of Science website.
Founded in 1961, the Faculty comprises five departments, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
At the Faculty of Science, we strive to provide state-of-the-art research environment for our students. In 2013, the Partner State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis was established which has opened up opportunities for top-level research activities, scholarly exchanges and collaborations with outstanding researchers.
Apart from offering the most advanced facilities, the academic and research teams also bring together an intellectually stimulating environment to our students. The work done by our dedicated staff have gained international recognition in their respective fields. For instance, many research activities from the Mathematics Department obtained level 4* in the Research Assessment Exercise of 2014 (RAE), reflecting the perseverance in the pursuit of excellence; our Biology Department successfully bid for HK$37.6 million of HSBC Foundation to establish Hong Kong’s first Institute of Bioresource and Agriculture in 2016 which aims at promoting sustainable living in the community; what’s more, the research teams from Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics departments won Gold Medals in 2016 and 2017 in International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, showcasing the advancement of their research results.
With our long tradition of nurturing leaders to make contribution to the society, we are committed to provide holistic educational opportunities to our students and to engage them with rich experiential learning. These include the summer undergraduate research fellowship, internship programme, exchange studies, study tours, field trips and industrial visits. Through these initiatives, our students are equipped with various hands-on experience and cultivated with a strong sense of perseverance, critical thinking and inquiry-driven mind on how to tackle new problems and find novel solutions by themselves, especially for those science students who aspires to be a scientist.
We hope that our students and graduates could fully develop their full potential and find their studies rewarding!
